Your last blog this year!!!

Estudiantes-

The time has come for your last blog of the year.  Make it your best!

You have watched the movie "Luther" over the past three days in class, detailing the life of Martin Luther.  Your assignment is to write a (long) blog over the following:
  1. Summarize some of the most important parts of his life and tell why they're important.
  2. Tell me your very own thoughts about Martin Luther (i.e. Why was he important?  What were some of his strengths?  What were some of his downfalls?  How accurate was the movie's portrayal of him?  Was the movie biased at all? etc.)
  3. Add in some of your own research from other sources about Martin Luther.  Use your World History book if you'd like.  If you use the internet, don't use bad sources or I will dock your grade.  Parenthetically reference your sources.
That's it!  This will be your last grade in my class outside of the semester test.  IT WILL BE A TEST GRADE.  I will base the "easyness" of your semester test on what kind of effort you put forth on this.

Have a great day!  Miss you guys!

DWYL Chapter 6 & 7

Your blog assignment for chapter 6 & 7 from Don't Waste Your Life is due Thursday, March 10.  Use the questions you have answered in class to provide a summary of your thoughts on the two chapters, and make sure to answer the following questions at some point in your blog.

  • On page 120 John Piper discusses television and the internet.  Tell me in your opinion what the greatest problem with TV is.  List 3 ways that television and the internet negatively affect you.

  • If someone were to compare your television/internet usage time with the time you spend praying, reading the Bible, and worshipping God, what might they conclude about the source of your satisfaction?

OK, these are just a couple thought-provoking questions in the chapters we read.  Feel free to elaborate on any portion of the text that particularly resonates with you.

Hasta la vista.

Calling all KTFs (Katie Tutt's Friends)

Dear Friend of Katie Tutt-

It has been nearly two months since the Lord took our beloved Katie away from us.  But, like Job said, "Shall we accept the good from God, but not the bad?"

In memory of our cherished time together, I am calling for a guest blog from Katie Tutt.  This is what I need from all of you KTFs: alert Katie Tutt that her former Bible teacher is requesting a guest blog.  This guest blog can have any title, even a review of the most recent Glee episode where Sue "Syvlester" goes ape and wants to shoot Brittany out of a cannon.  But mainly we just want to say "hi" to Katie and reply to her blog with well wishes and whatnot.

Godspeed.

"Jesus Camp"

Ello.  Your assignment from the "Jesus Camp" movie is to blog over your reactions.  Please try to stay away from as many broadbrush generalities as possible.  That means I'd like you to select the positive and not-so-positive elements of the movie and the particular beliefs that the people in the movie hold.  This will be a test grade, and it's due Friday - so please put in effort accordingly.  Feel free to Google "Jesus Camp" and come up with other resources for your blog if you desire.

Dark Lord of the Sith

Something extremely funny for your viewing entertainment.  The guy slaying people is Benny Hinn, a televangelist who has repeatedly cheated people out of money and admitted it.

Don't Waste Your Life: Chapter 3 Assignment

Questions:

1.  Reflect again on Galatians 6:14.  Where does boasting only in the cross happen?  What does this mean practically in your life right now?

2.  Study the following passage:
I have been crucified with Christ.  It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me.  And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself up for me.
-Galatians 2:20

How does it make sense to say that "I" died and yet "I" live?  What key words can you find in these verses that explain the difference between the "I" who died and the "I" who lives?

3.  What areas of your life right now are you living by faith?  What areas are you NOT living by faith?

Thursday, Dec. 9 Assignment

On a totally unrelated note, your assignment for today is to write thoughtful comments on AT LEAST 10 different classmates' blogs.  By thoughtful, I mean that you must interact with what was said and either agree or disagree - providing the reasons why you do or don't agree.  This also means that your comments should be at least a short paragraph.

Write down on a sheet of paper the 10 (or more) classmates that you commented on, and turn it in tomorrow for a grade.  Get er done!!!!

Assignments #8 & #9

Hola, pupils.  Here are your next two assignments: Due Wednesday.

Assignment #8: Write a response to the "Grilled Cheesus" episode of Glee that we watched in class.  Pay special attention to the worldview of the writers.  What do they think of your faith?  Are they portraying it in an accurate or inaccurate manner?  What parts are accurate and what parts are inaccurate?

Assignment #9: Read the article posted below and respond with your (intelligent) thoughts.

Extra Credit!!!

Here's the deal.  I saw this on ABC News and want you guys to take this online quiz.  The news gave the average score of atheist/agnostics, protestants, and Catholics.  I'm curious to see what the average of Bible class students would be to see if we are above or below the national average.

Your instructions are to take the quiz and then email your score to jmendenhall@oklahomabible.com.  Your score will be totally confidential (I won't think you're stupid if you don't perform well), and if I get the email from you by Tuesday, November 16th, you will receive 10 bonus points on any assignment.  Please help me out!!

Assignment #7

Happy Halloween!! (a few days late)

I think we've all heard Christians pontificate on how we should engage Halloween as believers in Jesus.  Here is a great article on that very topic...http://www.relevantmagazine.com/life/current-events/features/23301-is-halloween-good-or-evil

Your assignment, should you choose to accept it (and you should unless you want a 0), is to read this article and write a blog detailing your thoughts on Halloween.  To ensure that you have read the article, you need to quote parts of it that you agree or disagree with in your blog.

Good luck.  DUE THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 4

Assignment #5 - Andy Braner

Assignment #5 will be about ANY of the topics Andy Braner discussed this week...Believe, Behave, Belong.  You can write mainly on one topic, or give an overview of the whole week in chapel and/or class. You can also add some personal experience into your blog if you would like (i.e. give examples of your own life and some of the biblical truths Andy hit on).

***REMEMBER*** this will be a test grade.  Your normal length of blog will not suffice.  Your normal effort in blogging will not suffice.  Put the effort in!

Have a great weekend!!

Assignment #4

Greetings OBA Bible students.  Today's blog assignment is about friends.  Your assignment is to identify several qualities you desire in a friend.  Tell me why those qualities are important, and use the Bible to reference Scriptures about friend qualities.

Also, I want you to critique yourself and write about a couple qualities that you feel you need to work on so that you can be a better friend.

In the final part of your blog, I want you to identify someone NOT AT OBA who is a good friend to you (and tell me why).

Peace.

Sophomoric Guys Blog

Just wanted to let everyone know that your favorite sophomore guys have decided to start their own "mock" blog.  It is definitely sophomoric.  If you don't know what that means, then look here.

Seriously though, you should check their blog out, it's pretty funny.  I've listed it on my blog under the rest of your blogs.

Assignment #3 (For 7th hour ONLY) - Due Wednesday, Sept. 22nd

Dear 7th hour sophomores:

You need to write a blog about the lyrical study we did in class on Friday, John Mayer's "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room."  Lyrics are here.  I would like for you to write your thoughts on this song...for example, what emotions does it elicit in the listener, etc.  Write what you think the song is about, and if it is a song to be listened to a) never, b) anytime, or 3) sometimes.  Support your answer with good, Biblical thoughts.  If you missed class on Friday, then pick a song you really like right now and do a lyrical study on it.

DUE WEDNESDAY!!

Make sure you support your answer and put effort into your response.  Let me know if there are any questions.

Assignment #1

Alright Sophomores, here is your first assignment for your blog.  It is due this FRIDAY by 3:30.  If you don't get your blog working, then you can turn in the assignment on a piece of paper in class.

Assignment:  Choose one of the contemporary issues we've discussed in class (either today's or last week's), and write your thoughts on the topic.  If you missed class on one of the days, then find a story in the news and write your reaction to it. As you write your view, make sure that you include what a correct Christian response should be to the topic.  Use Scripture if you can.
